LasPlayer Privacy Policy

Overview

LasPlayer is a media player that utilizes exclusively on-device AI for subtitle transcription and translation. All user content is processed entirely on the device, and no user content ever leaves the user's device. For other data, we collect only two kinds of anonymous data: performance data, which are application performance metrics used to improve app performance, and usage data, which describes how app features are used and is sent only if you allow it (you can change this at any time in Settings). Neither is linked to your identity, and we do not engage in any advertising activity.

Please note that the upload traffic of this data will still pass through our infrastructure or analytics providers, who may know some of your basic network traffic metadata (such as your IP address). Data Collection

Performance Data

LasPlayer collects performance data generated during application runtime, such as model loading time, inference latency, etc. This is accomplished through Apple's official MetricKit framework, which uploads MXMetricPayload data to our backend infrastructure hosted on Cloudflare.

All data within the MXMetricPayload is completely anonymous and cannot be linked to your personal identity.
Our backend utilizes Cloudflare Workers and D1 Database. Workers can execute at any of Cloudflare's global edge nodes. When LasPlayer needs to upload data, Cloudflare allocates a node near your network location; your data is first transmitted to the Worker, which then forwards it to the D1 Database in the background.
The timing of data uploads is entirely determined by Apple's MetricKit framework and is not under LasPlayer's control. Its scheduling logic is designed with full consideration for user privacy protection.

Usage Data

With your permission, LasPlayer sends anonymous usage data (such as the AI model and languages selected for playback) through TelemetryDeck (Swift SDK only), a privacy-focused analytics service, so we can see which features need work.

Opt-in only. On first launch, LasPlayer asks whether you would like to share usage data with us. Nothing is sent until you choose "Allow". You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Analytics & Improvements → Share Anonymous Usage Data; turning it off immediately stops collecting new data. Your choice does not affect anything else in the app.
Automatically added information. The TelemetryDeck SDK attaches general technical information to each event. For the list, please see the Payload Data section of the TelemetryDeck documentation.
Anonymous identifier. LasPlayer uses TelemetryDeck's default anonymous identifier with no additional configuration. According to TelemetryDeck, this ID is constant for each app installation but cannot be traced back to personal information (in other words, it is not linked to your identity). Data Storage and Processing

We will never sell any data collected by LasPlayer or share it for advertising purposes. Cloudflare and TelemetryDeck process the data only as service providers on our behalf.
All network communications are protected using HTTPS.

Performance Data

We do not actively provide any collected data to Cloudflare; Cloudflare is utilized solely as infrastructure.
Our D1 Database is deployed in Cloudflare's Eastern North America region and retains only the latest 500MB of data.
Cloudflare Workers are automatically destroyed after each execution and do not store any data.
When your device uploads data, it is initially received and processed by Cloudflare. As a result, Cloudflare may be aware of your IP address, and similar network-level information. For more information, please see the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

Usage Data

How long is data stored? LasPlayer uses TelemetryDeck's default retention period; for details, please see How long is data stored? in the TelemetryDeck Privacy FAQ. Please note that TelemetryDeck also supports customized data retention plans, but those have to be arranged separately with TelemetryDeck and may not currently be a good fit for LasPlayer, so we use the default plan.
